To say we are excited about Hillsong Melbourne is an understatement. We are falling in love with our new home. I can’t get over the variety of coffee shops, Nic loves the shop-ING and the kids are going to go crazy over the idea of riding a tram to and from the gorgeous parks that make Melbourne one of Australia’s most beautiful cities.
After visiting Melbourne a few times over the last number of months, it comes as no surprise that this city is on track to be Australia’s largest. The diversity of the people, the breadth of its small laneways, large bridges and sprawling suburbs are dotted with new opportunities for Australians of all ages and backgrounds.
The café-culture, music-culture, and sports culture only add to our excitement. I’m yet to settle on an AFL team…but I’m open to bribery.
The strength of this city is God-willing going to be reflected in the strength of our church. We have such faith for Hillsong Melbourne to be a church that reflects that diversity. We’re building a church for sports-lovers, coffee-lovers, and music-lovers. We’re building a church for young people, ‘wise’ people, and everyone in between. A church for seekers…the lost and the not-yet found. Our dream is simple…we want to build a church that loves God and loves People…and we’re off to a pretty amazing start.
It’s not going to be glamorous…but it is going to be adventurous.
Hillsong Melbourne is a ‘come as you are’ church. Whether you’ve been to a church long ago or never set foot in a ‘sanctuary ‘ of any kind, we’re ready to meet you, get to know you and do the journey, together.
Nicola, Leila, Cooper and I make up the Douglass Family. And YOU…the people we haven’t met, and your friends that would never even THINK about coming to church, make up our new family. We can’t wait to meet you. So who’s up for the adventure?
