Owen Bloom never much liked the idea of church. As the manager of a local music venue in the heart of the CBD, his lifestyle was as far away from the church as you could imagine.
When his best friend Nikki talked about her church and God, he laughed at her. "After months of accusing her of all these different accusations, she still never got defensive or aggressive. In fact she would come back with legitimate answers. I could see how happy she was from just believing in Christ, her faith, and going to church. I started to get a little bit curious and asking questions. I wondered if it was maybe me or my friends, or people that aren't Christians that had it wrong after all."
Finally eight months ago, Owen woke up with an inexplicable urge to go to church. "I quietly knocked on Nikki's door, we jumped online and found a service time close to me which was just down the road from where I was living at the time and road my bike down. I walked past the door three times before I could even go in."
After a long process of asking questions and walking it out over the course of the past 8 months Owen is now serving at Doody St. in the Frontline community.
"The community here is amazing. I find everyone incredibly friendly and positive. They focus on building everyone up rather than cutting each other down. Everyone is so united and wants the best for each other and Christ is in the center of all of it."
"When I look back Nikki is the real hero. She never gave up, never judged, always loved and encouraged."
On Easter Sunday his entire family came to see Owen get baptised at the SEC, and in three weeks, Owen is embarking on a new season of life in Holland where he will be helping build Hillsong Amsterdam. There is so much to celebrate and we are excited for Owen and his best friend Nikki
