Sister, Stand Straight

Hillsong Collected

In Luke 13:10-17, Jesus walked into a Synagogue and noticed a WOMAN who had been bound by a “disabling spirit” that prevented her from “standing straight” for 18 years. Jesus called her over immediately, laid hands on her, and “freed her from her disability” (v.12). Indignant by this result, the synagogue ruler sort means by which to oppose Jesus’ actions, attempting to use Torah (the Law) to defend his claim against Jesus.

This story presents two characters, Jesus and the Synagogue Ruler, who read the same Scriptures, yet produced two different results in the communities they were leading. One used Torah in a way that crippled the “lesser” (culturally speaking) in the community, the other (Jesus) used Torah in a way that freed the “lesser” from the binding constraints of a dominant system that crippled its people.

The truth that can be drawn from this text is that WOMEN can STAND STRAIGHT in a Jesus centred community and ought not to be oppressed by a system of leadership that would have them looking down and eventually crippled over. When women are able to stand straight in the church, we will see the church reflect His divine image and likeness on this earth (Gen 1:26-7); an image that reflects healing and wholeness of ALL humanity.

I thank God for the Sisterhood movement that is releasing women right across the earth to STAND STRAIGHT in church and take their rightful stance and posture in the Body of Christ!

WOMAN STAND STRAIGHT!!

A Defining Moment

Once again last weekend in church I was overwhelmed by the goodness of God. Just before I got up to preach I started to think, ‘How did I get here?’

A Sisterhood story in Harare [PHOTOS]

Hillsong Collected

I have a friend in Harare, a Zimbabwean lady named Sifelani, who I met in church, in Cape Town, when she was going through a tough time, looking for a job, and missing her family back home.

Seasons

Hillsong Collected

Whilst lying in bed this cold winters morning with my iPad bible (gotta love the 21st century) open to Matthew 5 in The Message, I'm yet again stirred and reminded of how blessed I really am.
