Hi! I'm Ruth Strother, recently returned to my home at Hillsong Church after three years living overseas making a film for Hollywood. Somehow I have found myself in the middle of the frenetic lead up to Colour Conference, and tasked with the job of bringing you all things Backstage - and I can't wait for Colour to begin!
It’s only two sleeps to Colour Conference, which means the fun backstage began a long, long time ago!
On Saturday I popped in to watch the rehearsal of the conference closer - without giving too much away, the banner over this conference is 'A Revolution of Light', and that will sure come to life in the closing moments.
It was so inspiring to see a room full of hundreds of volunteers, freely giving up their weekend to be at rehearsal (which can be a whole lot of hurry-up-and-wait), to make conference as lovely and significant as it can possibly be. I watched our creative team, Nigel Hendroff and Autumn Hardman playing their instruments, Annie Garrett singing her heart out, diligently making the smallest of changes to find the difference between good and great.
I listened to Josh Bonnet encouraging the team to give everything they had, reminding them that what we are creating will minister to girls who have found their way to Colour against all odds, who are struggling, drowning, waiting and hoping that Jesus will find them in the midst of it all. He reminded us that what we are doing is truly about living 'on mission', and for that we are committed to giving all we have.
What I saw was simply a rehearsal, without sets or costumes, and I promise you it was beautiful. I got goosebumps as I saw in my mind the week that is ahead, and knew for sure God has already done miracles we don't even know about yet. He is completing His work in us before we have even begun...
We can't wait to bring you all the stories live from Backstage at Colour this week, chatting with our guests and our Hillsong team about their day to day lives. Stories of real people, with real struggles, real victories, real friendships, real hardships, real joy, and real love. We want to make our world smaller, and invite you to be part of our family, wherever you are in the world you find yourself, and whatever situation you find yourself in. You are part of this story, and we are so excited that we get to do this journey together!
